About
Oli De Vos (b. 1997, Ghent, Belgium) is a filmmaker and photographer, a graduate of RITCS School of Arts in Brussels (2022). Their work explores the potential of audiovisual language to imagine and construct queer utopias. Through this ongoing inquiry, De Vos seeks not only to illuminate themes of queer identity and sexuality, but also to approach creation itself as a queer, unstable, and transformative act. Their practice challenges dominant heteronormative ways of seeing, fostering encounters between viewer and screen that are intimate, subversive, and often unexpectedly revealing. Their graduation short film Atopia has been acclaimed at several international festivals, including Doclisboa International Film Festival (Lisbon, Portugal), Go Short International Film Festival (Nijmegen, Netherlands), and Encounters International Film Festival (Bristol, United Kingdom). Since January 2024, Atopia has also been available on demand via kortfilm.be. In addition, their work has been presented at BOLOHO Space (Guangzhou, China), the Nieuwe Instituut (Rotterdam, Netherlands), the Stadsfestival Damme (Damme, Belgium), and the UPC Duffel Triennial (Duffel, Belgium). Together with Jana Van Brussel, Oli De Vos co-directed four music videos for the Belgian Dutch-language music project Johannes Is Zijn Naam (Johannes Verschaeve, formerly of The Van Jets). In addition to their filmmaking practice, Oli is also a photographer specializing in set and portrait photography. They have recently worked on the sets of two feature films, Les Reines Du Drame by Alexis Langlois and La Danse Des Renards by Valery Carnoy. Oli has also collaborated with artists such as Eloi, providing set photography for the music video Call Me, and the music Gos Musclées directed by Alexis Langlois.
